AI for OpenIDE is an in-IDE AI coding agent for OpenIDE / the IntelliJ Platform.
It runs a project-aware chat & agent loop right inside the IDE: it reasons about your code, edits files, runs tools, and answers questions without leaving the editor.
Highlights
- Chat in an editor tab — stream a Claude/LLM conversation next to your code, with diffs, approvals, and interruptible runs; the side tool window is the AI Control Center.
- Tool use — read/edit files, search, run commands, apply patches, and drive the project through a bounded tool catalog.
- Project-aware context — pulls in open files, project structure, instructions (
AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md), and diagnostics. - Persistent memory — the agent remembers facts across sessions via a durable memory store and recall tool.
- MCP — connect external Model Context Protocol servers over stdio and HTTP to extend the tool set.
- Agents, skills & commands — configurable subagents, reusable Agent Skills, and slash commands, with automatic context compaction on long sessions.
Written in Kotlin, targeting JVM 21. Depends only on the IntelliJ Platform.
